I'm looking forward to our consultation for your wedding! Since this is your first visit with me at MetroStyle, I wanted to briefly provide some information about my home studio. I'm on the north edge of Minneapolis adjacent to Crystal Airport. This is a quiet, comfortable, kid-free/allergy-free/smoke-free space with easy freeway access and safe off-street parking. I have lots here to show you to help answer questions you may have about my wedding photography. Meeting elsewhere is always a possibility depending on your circumstances, but in that case, I can't lug as many of my albums & photos as I have right here on my walls and at my fingertips if you visit.
In the interest of full disclosure, especially for brides traveling alone, be aware I am a single man, and live alone with a studio in my large condo on the edge of north Minneapolis. Some years ago, I decided I could reduce my wedding prices by $500 per wedding simply by giving up the lease on my studio in the warehouse district and moving the entire operation into my home. I have lived in this unit for 29 years. In the past ten years, I've had three visitors who turned around and went home after arriving because they thought they were coming to a commercial photo studio. They texted or emailed later to tell me they felt unsafe coming to a private residence with a single man. So to help raise your comfort level, I'll provide the following information:
I have been a full-time professional photographer for almost 20 years. I free-lanced for many years prior to that - while working in various capacities as a writer, newsletter editor, and project-planner-type. My photos were published numerous times in minor magazines, on calendars, in greeting cards, etc. I secured rock concert press credentials many times in the 1980’s and was lucky to get to shoot many of the biggest names in rock music during that time. You’ll see some of those images and mementos on the wall of my home studio.
I am a member of Professional Photographers of America (you'll find me on their register as member # 4002949) and hold numerous awards for my work, the most recent being the “2017 Best of Weddings” award from theknot.com, America’s premiere bridal website. I have worked with 500 brides, and many dozens of high school seniors, children, and families. In the off-season when I'm not shooting weddings, I shoot for local schools and businesses. Ask around on Facebook and you'll find MANY young women who have shot fashion, pinup, or boudoir photography with me and who can attest to my professionalism. If you're coming in for a free wedding consultation and haven't done so yet, scan through my reviews at the knot.com by clicking here.
My family has a lengthy solid reputation in the twin cities - including my sister Laura, the Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer of the Minnesota Twins, and my brother Mike, the Senior Vice President of the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul. The other units in my building belong to the female manager of the property, the 80-year-old female caretaker, a retired female Sunday School Teacher, and the Mormon Church (where they house four young missionary sisters.) Honestly, this is about the most squeeky-clean "safe space" imaginable!
Many clients have expressed pleasant surprise at the professional setup I have here in a private home. But if any of this makes you feel at all uneasy, I can provide references upon your request or we can arrange to meet elsewhere. Wedding clients are invited to bring their fiance, or a parent or bridesmaid or girlfriend to our meeting. (New female models looking to shoot in my home studio MUST bring a friend, and underage photo subjects MUST be accompanied by a parent.)
There is a link to a map below, but you'll find me at 4572 58th Ave. North, Minneapolis. This is a condo/apartment complex called Twin Lake North. It is located on Bass Lake Road, 3/4 mile west of Brooklyn Boulevard adjacent to Crystal Airport. There's a large blue monument sign at the entrance that says "Twin Lake North." Follow the parkway to the rear of the complex and look for the little blue signs directing you to the various buildings. I'm in 4572. If you come along the side of the garage, you'll find the entry door. Press the bottom button (my name is on the directory) and I'll buzz you in the building and meet you in the gallery that you'll see as you come up the stairs.
My cell phone is 763.250.0181 - text or call if you're running late or get lost!
